Truthful Tuesday
When Hurricane Katrina hit, it was just a few short months after my family had vacationed there. In addition to being charmed by the sweetness of everyone in Hattiesburg, MS and promising the kids a visit to New Orleans “when you are older”, we also had a nice visit with my sister-in-law and her family. (Back when everyone still liked each other.) So it seemed just that much more devastating as it...

“Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.”

More Ways to Help Moore, OK
diva-gonzo: mellielou: Keep in mind that I do not work for any relief organizations and that these are just my observations: I know of three places right now that are open as shelters: First Baptist Church in Moore, Journey Church in Norman, and the Walker Tower dorms at the Univ. of OK campus. I’m sure there are more, those are the ones I know. I also know people are donating hotel points...

More Ways to Help Moore, OK
Earlier today I posted a suggestion to donate to Red Cross. Throughout the work day, I listened to the local news as it streamed on the Internet and checked Facebook constantly. Since then, I’ve come up with some other thoughts on what could be done to help. Keep in mind that I do not work for any relief organizations and that these are just my observations: I know of three places right...

Just A Cat
diva-gonzo: curiositykilledtheslug: Ollivander’s Challenge week 3 Prompt: Hermione dealing with Crookshanks’ death Read More Well, that settles it. I won’t need to write an entry this week. This one knocks it out of the pitch.  And speaking as a cat owner, it’s oh so true.  My Alex (well, he was my best friend’s cat before she became allergic - then he was my cat) has his place of honor...

Note to Self
I have GOT to stop using food as a coping mechanism. Not only is it unhealthy, my stomach hurts and it’s keeping me awake which means I’ve got more time to dwell on the butt hurt that inspired the overeating in the first place.

Oh Don't Mind Me
I’m just sitting on the couch with my son watching Harry Potter mourn another loss, wiping tears, and talking about who we expect to meet us when we die and cross to the other side. As you do on Mother’s Day. We agree that neither of us is in any hurry, but that it will be good to meet them, in his case, or to see them again, in mine. (He expects his grandmother, I expect a dear...

monkeyfrog asked: I've been to OKC the city once. I liked it! It was nice and mid-sized. That was a really long time ago, though, so maybe I should find my way back for a visit soonish. :>)

The co-worker and I think we should administer basic reading comprehension tests to anyone before we allow them to rent the venue for an event. I’m sure the outcry and backlash were we actually to do this would not be worth it, but it sure would solve a lot of problems we have with the renters.

Thank you JK Rowling
Thank you for setting the Battle of Hogwarts on May 2nd. This means that every year, my Tumblr is a virtual Harry Potter-fest on my birthday. (We’ll just overlook the fact that many of those posts are in memory of Fred Weasley. Sigh)

What I Won't Say to Them
So I’ll say it here instead: Today was catch-up day at work. Our Operations person is at a well-deserved Collections conference for the next couple of days, so there are just two of us to wrangle the field trip kids, deal with grumpy questions, and take messages from disgruntled brides-to-be who want to rent the venue and are stunned to hear that our Operations manager might want to attend...

From The Archives 1/12 - Top Ten Muppet Moments
tomservoindrag: NOTE:  PLEASE TELL ME IF THE LINKS BELOW DON’T WORK, AND I’LL FIX THEM! My Top 10 “Muppet Show” Moments!!   We Gen Xers know that before hormones dictated our existence, Saturday night meant rushing to the living room after dinner and spending the night laughing with our favorite TV pals, The Muppets.  Our folks loved them as well, and it was one of the very few shows that could...

Bridging the Divide: Wilcox County High School... →
justwantogethere: For any teenager, prom is a monumental night, but for students at a Georgia high school, it has been more than 40 years in the making. For the first time ever, students at Wilcox County High School, in Rochelle, Ga. danced together at a prom… I’m shocked but perhaps I shouldn’t be shocked with this country anymore.  What year is it again? I could have sworn it was 2013 not...

Does This Just Apply to Me?
This morning I am absolutely worn out by the week-long festival going on at work. It is the biggest event we host all year and involves interacting with about 300 kids, their parents, and local area “VIP’s” all day long. Right now, I can’t imagine getting through another day of it. But experience has taught me that I feel like this every morning each year of the festival, only to find that when...

I would really like to have the luxury of quitting my job, sleeping for a week, then spending as much time as I can getting my house organized and then doing lots of fun bonus activities with the girls’ group that I lead, but (in my own opinion) don’t do nearly enough for each week. It won’t happen, but I thought I would put it out there anyway. (It probably doesn’t help that my busiest work...

2013 has not been a banner year for us as a nation or for me personally. Not since I was a teenager have I found myself feeling terribly hurt or disappointed or disillusioned and wishing I could throw my arms up in frustration and ask God “What is it all for, anyway?” I was feeling that way again this morning as I scanned the local radio stations looking for coverage of the OKC...

I Wish I Was in Chicago
Over the past couple of years, I’ve kind of felt that way, but the introvert in me was secretly relieved. This is the first time I am genuinely sad to be missing CHSH. Stupid money shortages and important stuff going on at work this week and next, they ruin all my fun.

Must Not Laugh at the 3 Year-Old
My three year-old has a Simba stuffed animal with a ball-shaped rattle inside of it to make it sound like it is purring. She just told me the following: Three year old: Mom, I’m trying to get my balls out of Simba. Because I LOVE balls. And now I’m trying not to laugh because I have no way to explain myself to her.

The best thing I did all day...
steelopus: …was to step away from the news and the computer and listen to some comedy. An itchy refresh-finger and your eyes scanning ever-changing headlines aren’t going to make anything better. There’s no shame in finding a reason to laugh on a day like this. It doesn’t change anything outside of my own head, but it’s certainly a better way to spend my time right now. Perhaps you should give...
