Last Week
I was in charge of the museum’s annual Halloween event for the first time. I had to help set -up, chaperone, and clean up after a youth fundraiser dance, and today I had to help lead the annual children’s church program. All of these events required me to be responsible, mature and calm in the face of coordinated details gone wrong, bad weather, flaring tempers, hormonal teens, and...
Hi Tumblr
I knew my work week was going to be grueling so I grounded myself from you on Monday. I finished the busiest parts of my week (or survived them, anyway) and now I’m back. I missed you all.

Simple Math
Caught up on laundry + Caught up on Tumblr = 1 Good Weekend
I Am Rejoicing Because:
-A less-than-stellar OU game meant I could give up watching at halftime and focus on getting my house clean.
-My house is at an acceptable level of clean for the first time in months. Five kids and two working parents can do scary things to a house very quickly.
-My kids are all up and dressed for church even though their Dad got called into work and wasn’t here to help me threaten, uh I...

muppetmusic:
I’m not putting a whole heck of a lot of stock in this Hollywood Reporter article. Basically what it amounts to is that Frank Oz and some other Muppet veterans don’t think the new movie is going to be very good or respectful enough of the Muppets’ past.
What people need to realize, when the inevitable backlash occurs, is that very few of the original creative minds are involved...

Today I did the bulk of the grocery shopping for the next couple of weeks for my family of 7. Needless to say, I had a very full shopping cart.
The grocery store was packed, so I found myself in line behind another mom with a big family. We commiserated about people who get behind us in line and then get exasperated when they see how much we are buying.
We’ve decided we want to print...

Vote for my brilliant baby brother!
My brother has applied for a teaching grant. If you have some spare time and are so inclined, please vote for his proposal. It’s neat and marries art and science and it’s the coolest thing since sliced FUCKING bread.
(…I really miss cursing…)
Done!

Oh Dan...
It’s a shame I’m not in town this weekend. I think the Poop Deck would be pretty lively right now.
Saturday Confession
I’m happier to see Rosie O’Donnell hosting a talk show than I am comfortable admitting in public. Sorry to disillusion you all.

Typical
Hello 12 hour work day and hello day 1 of my cycle. How nice to see both of you working together like that.

Reblogging for George!

Also, she didn’t want me to say this, but if you can donate, please do. The vet’s estimate is around $1,100. I’m trying to do what I can to help her take care of the rest of the money, but I could use a hand.
George is feeling better and Kate will be bringing him home from the vet this afternoon.
We’ve done a great job raising nearly $900 so far....

I have some awesome cookware that I earned many years ago when I used to sell Tupperware to pay for graduate school. I remember thinking “Wow! My kitchen skills aren’t worthy of these pots and pans.” And I think tonight might finally prove my point.
Besides being amazingly resistant to the years of burnt, sticky messes my cooking mishaps have inflicted on it, it can also go in...
Home before Midnight!
That is all.
Favorite Part
Actually, I have a whole list of these for the trip that I’m hoping to post tomorrow. But tonight, I just have to share this one:
My two year-old is the pickiest eater ever. When we had some deep dish Chicago pizza, no one was more surprised than me that she loved it.
Right now, we are at Denny’s where we thought she would be happy with the kids’ pizza she’s eaten here...

Going Home...
As usual, all the anxiety was for naught. We are driving toward home now after one of the best mini-vacations we’ve taken as a family.
Chicago was toured, deep dish pizza was consumed, gatherings of friends and our offspring were enjoyed; and I’m not sure it gets any better than that.
We just tied our two year-old’s shoe laces together to keep her from climbing around on the train. It’s not one of our finer moments in parenting, but so far it’s working.
Due to Circumstances Beyond My Control...
I am on the train with 5 grouchy children instead of Toni’s Poop Deck drinking a rum runner. I believe this is what the kids these days are calling fml.
To My Dear Friend Toni
I did not come here to judge your house. If you could see mine you wouldn’t even be worried. And if I as much as inhale a rum runner tonight, not only will I not notice remodeling dust, I may not remember much of the visit either. See you tonight!

So Far, So Good
We got to our planned stop outside St. Louis late last night with a minimum of crying, fighting, or “are we there yet?”s The first three chapters of Son of Neptune are finally letting us know what was happening to Percy Jackson during The Lost Hero. As I said, so far, so good…
Anxiety, I Haz It
I was such a spacey kid and teenager that I’m sure I had ADD of some kind (and I really shouldn’t put that in past tense). So I never imagined I would be the kind of adult who freaks out over nothing. I’m getting ready to leave on a trip that my kids and I have eagerly anticipated and I AM FREAKING OUT, MAN!
We are driving from OKC to Crystal Lakes, IL to hang out with Toni and...
