Dream Job
Most days, I’m so busy with grant deadlines, emails, and phone calls that I don’t have time to think about it. But every once in awhile I will have a quiet moment at my desk when I realize “Holy crap! I RUN this place. I’m the boss-lady. The BUCK STOPS HERE.” It’s really scary and kind of awesome all at once.
reblog if it's okay to invade your ask box.

of course.
Always. That’s what it’s there for.
Mine too.

What Padme Should Have Said
We are Star Wars fans here, but every time we watch Attack of the Clones, I always share some variation of this with my daughters. It’s one of my favorite teaching moments:
“Oh Ani, you wiped out an entire village of Sandpeople? What a tough time you must be having right now. I’m so sorry. And um…I think I left the stove on back on Naboo. I’m just going to fly back...
Overheard In My Living Room
My daughter and I were trying to do the right thing by watching a church broadcast targeted towards girls 12-17. Of course the real ‘right thing’ would have been to go to one of the nearby church buildings, but let’s not get crazy here. At least we watched it this year. And it’s just as well we stayed home because the evening was full of this kind of snark:

20 Hours to IMPACT
One of the hottest grants for an Oklahoma City metro area non-profit is the IMPACT grant and with good reason. One hundred women give $1,000 each comprising the $100,000 granted to one lucky non-profit each year. The museum has come close to getting it a couple of times, but we usually lose to organizations that shelter the homeless and feed the hungry which admittedly fill more basic and...
I'm Amazed He's Still Alive Too
My kids have figured out the ‘sick’ card. Both the husband and I have used up more leave than we should because we have to leave work early every time the school health aide calls to tell us one of our kids “has a tummy ache” “sore throat” etc…They always make miraculous recoveries at home and we miss work needlessly. This school’s aide is a much...
When Did This Happen?
So, my 13 year-old spent Spring Break with a friend. I missed her, but I knew I would be taking her youth group to Tulsa for the weekend as soon as she got back and we would get tons of time together.
So here we are, 5 girls and two chaperones at the hotel and guess who decided she wanted to stay in the other room with the other chaperone tonight?
When did I stop being her favorite person?
After a crazy week, dinner at a tapas bar and an Adam Sandler movie (Just Go With It) were just what I needed. Night all!

You’re up way past your bedtime watching the Rock, Pop, & Doo Wop concert on PBS.
Tales from the Cash Register
Some of my favorite exchanges between myself and the visitors that come to the museum:
Senior Citizen: That will be one senior rate.
Me: That’ll be $4.
Senior Citizen: Oh, and since I have eight people with me can I get the group rate too?
Me: Both the senior rate and the group rate are $4 and the group rate starts at 10 people. But either way, you would be paying $4.
Senior Citizen:...
Truthful Tuesday
I took Monday and Tuesday off from work with big plans to re-organize most of the house and get it all clean.
I got about half of it done and I’m exhausted.
I’m guessing this house will be a lot cleaner when there are fewer children in it.
I’m still in no hurry for that to happen.
I swore up and down that I didn’t want or need a nanny or someone to help out around the...

Why I love TCM
Last night it was My Fair Lady and tonight Inn of the Sixth Happiness. My Dad introduced me to both of these, and while my perspective has changed; my nostalgia for both of these classics has not.
finallychelle asked: When my friend's mother died she turned all her old flannel pj's into quilts. Whenever the kids are sick or sad they cuddle up with "Nona."
An Unlikely Ally
So, this new “Interim Director” job is kicking my butt. Although I would be lying if I said I didn’t love it. Since the death of my great-great aunt, my mom and I are trying to make sure all of the CNA’s who made our lives easier the past few years have all the help in the world finding new jobs. My favorite of the nurses who always helped my mom watch my 18 month-old...
Hope Tomorrow is Rainy
There is a funny series of scenes in the first season of Gilmore Girls where Lorelai realizes that every nice outfit she owns is either dirty or locked up at the dry cleaners on Rory’s first morning at Chilton. To cover, she wears a nice trench coat over a t-shirt, a pair of Daisy Dukes, and some dress boots.
As the museum’s new Interim Director, I have my first Executive Committee...
I am at MAX capacity for drama this week
Unfortunately, the rest of my family does not seem to have a limit on their ability to produce it. Because having our oldest living relative die was tough on my grandmother, she decided to check into the hotel attached to her favorite bar the evening of the funeral. Her bender ended today when she fell flat on her face and broke her nose exiting said bar. My parents and my sister are at the ER...

Today
I ate chocolate covered pretzels in my great-great aunt’s all white touch-me-not living room because for the first time in my life she wasn’t there to tell me that I couldn’t. She was right, she was the moral center of this family. Next thing you know, we’ll be sitting on the white couch WITHOUT it’s protective cover. Which would be cool since I’m not sure...

My Smile for the Day
I just got a frantic call from a parent. It seems her kids’ class was supposed to tour the Governor’s Mansion today, but it was closed. So they had several car loads of kids and no place to go. Not everyone had $5 for admission, so I told them to come here for free anyway so that the kids got to do something besides walk through the state capitol for their field trip today. I can hear...
Something Funny for a Change
I thought I would share at least one funny bit during all of the memorial posts:
As we were gathering clothing for the funeral home we came across a gift box. We opened it and were pleasantly reminded of many Christmases ago when Uncle Johnny was still with us. I’ve mentioned that he was a paraplegic and in the later years he found that it was just easier to hand my mother money and a...
