Truthful Tuesday
I called in sick for work today…from Dallas. (I work in Oklahoma City.) but I did feel like crap, so that should give me some points for honesty, right?

We are OK, but our little rural town took a great big hit. :( I know it doesn’t compare to Joplin, but I’m still shaking.
Ok, all 7 of us are smashed into our tiny bathroom and I’m feeling a little scared now. And I’ve grown up with this.

Gary England is on the t.v. in front of me while the weather radio goes off non-stop behind me. It must be spring time in Oklahoma.

I usually keep this space separate from my work space, but I’m trying to get the word out about my new site, so here I am.
1. I’m running a giveaway—free fun stuff. Ends tomorrow (5/25). Details here.
2. I’d like to interview people for a regular segment called ‘Why I’m Outdoorsy.’ This…

alinasmith:
When I say something like “and that’s why gay people should be able to get married” and you respond with something like “no they shouldn’t” my brain explodes and I want to jam your stupid opinions up your stupid disgusting ass.
This is why I try to avoid political and other sensitive topics when speaking with people.
I’m busy at work today, so instead of posting my own...

I work at a museum. This is a place people go willingly for cultural enlightenment and/or an educational experience. So you would think they wouldn’t be assholes while they are visiting. But alas, you would be wrong…

Text from a Friend
“I’m sorry you haven’t been ‘raptured’ today. Tell Dave to get on that.”
Dave=My Husband
I really DO have the best friends.
Edited to add: I showed the text to my husband and his classic response was: I don’t get it.
How is it that we have 5 kids again?

At Least We Have a Plan Now
My friends and I are discussing back and forth on Facebook how the next ‘rapture’ is slated for October and how we should greet it lying in the grass and ‘cloud busting’ as Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams did in The Fisher King. I love that movie. And I love my friends. And while we are joking, it really wouldn’t be a half-bad way to bid farewell to life as we know...

All I'm Going to Say
I don’t have a lot of thoughts on the so-called rapture today except to say that if you talk a lot about how much you love Jesus and then go around treating people like crap, you are probably going to be ‘left behind’ today. (Along with every other single person on the planet…)

Why Do I Always Pick the Wrong Major?
As an undergrad I majored in Latin because I wanted to be a high school teacher and that was my best subject. As it turned out, you have to have at least two certifications before any public school that teaches Latin will hire you.
After graduating college, I served a mission for my church. I hoped to go somewhere Spanish speaking because I knew it would come in handy when I got home and started...
Truthful Tuesday
Yesterday, I posted with pride about my fix-it skills with broken non-profit groups. I wasn’t bragging and I wasn’t lying, I’ve been at if for years and could probably market myself as a consultant. But sometimes, I get really sick of being Ms. Fix-It and wish that for once I could run a museum without cash flow issues and a bare minimum of staff members. Or even better: Quit...
My Own Mother's Day Meme
After weeks of feeling crappy, my husband’s Mother’s Day gift to me today was to drag me to the minor emergency clinic for a diagnosis. It turns out my “little cold” has become “big bronchitis” and I feel miserable enough to believe it. So, instead of a nice brunch and a visit to Tulsa to see my grandparents; I’m in bed trying to get better before work...

Job Wanted
Does anyone know of a job that allows me to pay my bills, cover a car payment in the not too distant future, and also lets me stay at home with my 2 year-old, be available for my older kids’ school activities, and really get serious about writing my screenplay?
That’s what I thought. But it never hurts to ask, right?
I remember my parents not letting me watch The Big Chill in the 80’s because I was too young. I always planned to watch it when I got older, but who knew it wouldn’t be until tonight before I actually found it on a movie channel that didn’t edit it for tv or insert commercial breaks. And it was worth the wait!
Edited to add: I think this movie would have been lost on me until...

Truthful Tuesday
A few years ago, Oklahoma City stole acquired an NBA team: The OKC Thunder. I have to admit, it’s done great things for the metro area in terms of excitement and community pride, not to mention what the team gives back in terms of donations and personal appearances (including one at my workplace). BUT, I just can’t get excited about them. I even went to a game a few months ago to see...
