Excuse me people circling me and my awesome parking spot like vultures in the WalMart parking lot. You may have noticed my purchases include a larger than normal amount of feminine hygiene products. It doesn’t mean what you think it does*, but I would still approach me with caution. A LOT of caution.
*I’m taking a group of 11 teenaged girls to a weekend convention. It’s best to...
That Gratifying Feeling...
of making your co-worker clean up his own mess and listening in while he does it.
Psst…You cannot send out twice as many Day Camp application forms as we have space available for and think that is going to end well. And if you do, and then we reach full capacity, you have to call each parent that hasn’t sent their form back in yet to tell them we have no more available slots. And...
Dear Little Jackass Who I Didn't Kill For Dating...
Did you really have to break up with her four days before summer vacation started? I thought it was funny when you feared me the last four months, but now I think you really should…

Worth It
Last Thursday was the big annual museum fundraiser. I was an intern there during its very first incarnation and it was a very fancy affair that the E.D. planned and executed with our staff of 6 doing set-up, tear down, and four hours of schmoozing at the party. It was the longest Saturday of my life. The next two years were equally fancy, but each year saw us hiring a bit more help. This was...
Feeling Ways about Things
Oh sure, I post nothing for a week and then go crazy on my first night off this week. There’s a lot running through my head and I always feel better when I’ve published those thoughts on the Internet.
As I already elaborated in an earlier post, I’m feeling good about the direction of my youth group. They’re really starting to get it.
I’m feeling sad because my...
Getting Something Right
May is a very busy month. There are three family birthdays (one is mine), end of school concerts and ceremonies, non-stop field trips at work, our annual work fundraiser, and the annual convention for the girls’ youth group that I chaperone. I typically thrive on the whirlwind for the first few days, keep powering through based on sheer will when that momentum wains, then lose it completely...

Tré’s First Mother’s Day: Featured on Newsweek.com
whiteelephantintheroom:
If you haven’t already sold your reunion story, said the editor. It would be perfect for Mothers Day.
Hells yeah! I said. How many words?
How long is a piece of string?
The piece of string is 18 years long.
And 1500 words.
And the Daily Beast just published ALL OF IT. With photos.
Read it HERE!

I work in theatre - alot. And recently I’ve been working with a great team to produce a youth production of Fiddler on the Roof, Jr. It opened last night, but during the rehearsals and preparation for the show I was inspired to re-write the lyrics to one of the beautiful songs to reflect the…
Posts I Didn't Have Time to Write This Week
As usual, I’ve composed many posts in my head over the week that never make it here because I don’t have time to write them up properly.
Here’s what you’ve missed:
Until You’ve Walked a Mile in MY Mother of 5, Non-Profit Executive Director, & Youth Leader Shoes…Don’t judge me OR my “sensible shoes.”
The Narrative I’m Writing (and...
I Just Took My Life in My Hands and Posted This to...
With all of the FB posts flying around in the last 24 hours, this note will count as my only commentary. Many of you who are my friends here have known me for a long time (shout out to all the Mckinley-Whittier West alumni), so it will come as no surprise to most of you that I spent the better part of my life feeling backwards, socially awkward, and like there wasn’t a place in the world where I...
Today Was Weird
First, I got a phone call from the principal about my teenaged daughter having a PDA problem with her boyfriend. (On a related note, I finally figured out how to get my husband to call me back quickly. Unfortunately, it involves sending texts that explain our teenaged daughter is in trouble for PDA at school.)
Then, I got to work where I had to dress in a schoolmarm outfit and teach one-room...
Is it too early
to start counting down to the weekend?
Truthful Tuesday
I did not follow Jeff and hadn’t heard of him until today. And yet I am still
feeling very sad tonight. :( That is all.

Sequestering myself in a motel room for the weekend yielded 5 rough draft chapters, two nights of good sleep, and one good night out with my husband and some of my closest friends. It was a very productive weekend and a great idea. I’ll have to do it again.

Current Status
Since I can’t go to Makearoo, I am holed up in a motel room to do some writing this weekend. Unfortunately, I got a room with a jacuzzi tub and I have to keep testing it to make sure it works. :) BRB, I think there’s something good coming on PPV…
He Would Have Been 40 too
In a scene from a teen angst tv show, I once had a very sweet boy tell me how he felt about me. A week later he was killed at a dangerous train crossing spot in his hometown. We hadn’t spoken since that night. I was haunted by it for years, but life goes on, Things change, and I’m a little ashamed to admit that I rarely think about him now. But today, he would have been 40, so today I...
Missed Opportunities
I was headed towards a Wal-Mart check-out line last night when I did a double take at the prominently displayed “Mother’s Day gift ideas” promo shelf up at the front of the store. It was stocked with some of the sorriest looking art “projects” I’ve ever seen and all I could think was “Oh crap, let me check this out so I can be prepared to look pleased a...

My Day Off
Back when we didn’t know someone was going to steal my husband’s SSN and use it to file their taxes, we planned an April trip to NYC. I forgot to delete the day’s off from work on the calendar and looked forward to a four-day weekend since the status of our tax return is still up in the air.
Yesterday, I chaperoned the 2nd grade field trip to the zoo and drove from there to work...

Reblogged because I love the character of Molly Weasley and because I’m proud of the time I spent at home when my kids were younger.
